Lakeland falls to Marquette

Athletics - posted on 2/26/2011

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team suffered a setback early on Saturday, at the Hoosier-Illini Classic, losing to Marquette 2-0 (31-29, 25-21).

The Muskies (10-7) couldn't match the effort of Marquette and head coach Chad Schreiber wasn't happy with his team's performance.

"This was our worst performance of the year," said Schreiber. "No one stepped up to impact the result of a close match. I shouldn't have to use timeouts to ask for effort."

Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in the Feb. 4, National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll, was led offensively by sophomore Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.) who had nine kills. Junior Jared Sparrey (Oak Forest, Ill.) added six kills.

The Muskies return to action Wednesday, March 2, as they travel to Whitewater, Wis. to face WVC foe UW-Whitewater. The match is set for 8 p.m.
