Muskies fall to Irish, 1-3 in pool play
Athletics - posted on 2/26/2011
The Lakeland College men's volleyball team lost its final pool play match in the Hoosier-Illini Classic on Saturday, a 2-0 (25-21, 25-20) loss to Notre Dame.
The Muskies (10-8) just couldn't get over the hump in their second consecutive close match.
"This was a closely played match, but I feel we were still reeling from the match against Marquette," said Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber. "A point run for Notre Dame in each game was the difference."
Lakeland, who is an honorable mention in the Feb. 4, National Collegiate Volleyball Federation poll, was led offensively by junior Jared Sparrey (Oak Forest, Ill.) who had five kills. Defensively, senior's Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and Beau Bradshaw (Oak Lawn, Ill.) had three blocks each.
The Muskies return to action Wednesday, March 2, as they travel to Whitewater, Wis. to face WVC foe UW-Whitewater. The match is set for 8 p.m.
