Muskies remain unbeaten in conference play

The Lakeland College football team moved to 3-0 in Northern Athletics Conference play with a 20-7 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in the Muskies Homecoming game.

Lakeland (3-3) used another balanced output on offense and the defense delivered in clutch situations to keep the Muskies perfect in league play. Lakeland had 325 total yards on offense, 167 rushing and 158 passing, and dominated in time of possession with 40:49 to Lutheran's 16:38.

The Muskies led 14-0 at halftime with both scores coming in the second quarter. Senior running back Adam Miller (Marion, Wis.) opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, and sophomore quarterback Dylan Van Straten (Shiocton, Wis.) scored on a 7-yard run.

Van Straten led Lakeland's rushing attack with 89 yards on 27 carries, plus he was 9 of 18 passing for 158 yards and a fourth-quarter 31-yard TD pass to senior receiver Justin Groeneveld (Kingsford, Mich.).

The Warriors (2-4, 1-2 NAC) finished with 232 total yards. Lakeland sophomore linebacker Tyler Oslund (Ishpeming, Mich.) had a team-high seven tackles, including a key stop on Lutheran's final drive to ice the victory. Senior safety Tony Faller (Oostburg, Wis.) added six tackles.

The win sets up a big date with Concordia University Chicago at Lakeland on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m.
