The Lakeland College baseball team traveled to Chicago, Ill. this evening to face North Park University in a double-header.

The Muskies (5-5) suffered their fourth consecutive loss, losing both games, 19-1 and 12-6.

In game one Lakeland got off to a nice start, scoring a run in the first inning on a David Novak (Algoma, Wis.) RBI double that scored Andrew "Woody" Schartner (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.). It would be all North Park after that, as Lakeland managed just three hits the rest of the game.

Schartner led the team at the plate, going 2-3 with a run scored.

On the mound, senior Matt Katzman (1-2)(Sauk Prairie, Wis.) just couldn't find a rhythm, as he pitched three innings, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits while striking out two and walking two. Freshman Andrew Mueller (Horicon, Wis.) didn't have much luck in relief either, pitching three innings and allowing nine runs, eight earned, on ten hits while striking out four and walking three.

The Muskies lost their fourth straight game as game two didn't go much better for Lakeland, as they totaled just three hits.

North Park would get on the board first, scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Mike Ruzek would settle in after that, allowing just two more runs before exiting in the sixth inning.

A two-RBI single by Novak in the third inning tied the game, and with the help of two North Park errors, the Muskies take a 3-2 lead. A Jeremy Meier (Sauk City, Wis.) RBI single in the sixth scored Jess Nickel (Waupun, Wis.) increasing the Lakeland lead, 4-2. The lead was short lived though, as North Park would add two runs on one hit and an error in the sixth inning and would add eight runs on eight hits in the seventh to take a 12-4 lead.

A Muskie rally in the ninth fell short, as they scored just two runs on one hit, giving North Park the 12-6 victory. The Muskies bats were quiet most of the game, with Novak going 1-5 with three RBI's and Meier going 1-2 with a run scored and one RBI.

On the hill for the Muskies, senior Mike Ruzek (Manitowoc, Wis.) pitched six inning allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out six and walking none. In relief, junior Andy Chitwood (1-1) (Muscoda, Wis.) went two innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits, striking out three and walking two.

The Muskies return to action Sunday, March 27, for their 2011 home opener against Lawrence University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
