The Lakeland College men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to the University of Chicago in nonconference action Saturday afternoon at Muskie Field.
The Muskies (1-1-1) couldn't find a rhythm in the first-half of play as the Maroons penetrated Lakeland's half. Chicago struck first in the 13th minute on a cross from Sam Preston that Matt Vecchitto placed just past junior goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha).
The Maroons capped a header goal in the 35th minute to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the 50th minute Chicago scored again, but the Muskies wouldn't go quiet, scoring just 44 seconds later. Senior Bobby Rublee (Sheboygan) got the offense started out of the back and found senior Craig Dekarske (Sheboygan) up top. Dekarske dribbled past a couple of Maroon defenders and drilled the ball in the back of Chicago's net to make it a 3-1 game.
Lakeland played a better second-half, but Chicago's lead was too much to overcome. The Maroons would score once more in the 89th minute as they outshot the Muskies 19-8.
Piekarski recorded six saves on the game.
