Cardinals too much for Muskies

Athletics - posted on 10/2/2011

The Lakeland College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback to North Central College in non-conference action Sunday afternoon in Naperville, Ill.

The Muskies (4-3-3, 2-0-2 NAC) who recorded a convincing 6-2 win over Concordia University Wisconsin in Northern Athletics Conference action yesterday, couldn't carry the momentum into today's game.

North Central struck first at the 24:35 mark to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Lakeland held it's own until a defensive breakdown caused three goals. The Cardinals attacked Lakeland's goal in the last 14 minutes of action and were able to capitalize three times, including at the 87:50 mark for a compelling victory.

"We were under a lot of pressure in the second half," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We fell apart with about 15 minutes left in the game and lost our composure. We started going forward on occasion, but we couldn't hang onto the ball well tonight."

Junior goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha) recorded nine saves and faced 26 shots for the game.

The Muskies return to NAC action on Oct.5 as they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin for a 4 p.m. start.
