Muskies hold their own against No. 6 ranked Dominican

Athletics - posted on 10/8/2011

The Lakeland College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to Dominican University in Northern Athletics Conference play Saturday afternoon.

The No. 6 ranked Stars scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute to remain undefeated in the NAC.

The Muskies' (4-5-3, 2-2-2) defense frustrated the Stars and held their own for the majority of the game. Junior goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha) forced overtime after he distracted Dominican's Leo Elizalde on a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Elizalde hit the crossbar as Piekarski was able to secure the ball afterwards. He recorded 10 saves on the game and faced 21 shots.

Head coach Tony Pierce was pleased with the team's efforts. See what he says about today's game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFILji_Zs3A

The Muskies return to NAC action on Oct. 11 as they travel to Watertown, Wis., to take on the Crusaders of Maranatha Baptist Bible College. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
