Sophomore Monica Santelli scored her first career hat trick and the Lakeland College women's soccer team got goals from five players in a 9-2 win at Rockford College on Saturday.
Rockford scored the game's first goal, but Lakeland (3-3) responded with five straight from five different players and never looked back in improving to 2-0 in Northern Athletics Conference play.
Senior Lindsay Rogers added two goals and an assist, senior Kristina Borts had a goal and three assists, senior Dana Schmidt scored twice and freshman Stephanie Rock scored the first goal of her Lakeland career. Lakeland led 6-2 at the half.
Santelli, from Pleasant Prairie, Wis., added an assist to go with her three goals.
"When Rockford scored that first goal, we were dominating, but we had missed some opportunities, and I think that woke us up," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We really found a rhythm, and that made it fun to play. Any time you have a player get a hat trick, that's a special moment.
"Getting that second conference win was very important. One of our goals is to make the conference tournament, and this gets us a step closer. You need to win the games you feel that you should win, and I felt this was one we should have won."
The Muskies return to action Sunday with a non-conference game at Lawrence University in Appleton at 1 p.m.
