Lakeland drops non-conference game to Buccaneers

Athletics - posted on 9/28/2011

The Lakeland College women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback to Beloit College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The Buccaneers jumped on a sluggish Muskie team in the first two minutes of action as Molly Dickson scored off a deflection at the 1:12 mark.

The Muskies (3-7, 2-2 NAC) found a rhythm in the middle of the first half, but couldn't contain Beloit's offense. The Buccaneers scored again in the 24th and 27th minute of action to go up 3-0.

Seniors Dana Schmidt (Menasha) and Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan) didn't allow the Muskies to go quietly as the two combined for a goal in the 28th minute. Schmidt flicked a through ball that Rogers ran down and placed just past Beloit's goalkeeper.

Beloit struck once more before half, this time just outside the 18 yard box to take a 4-1 lead at halftime.

The Muskies held the Buccaneers scoreless in the second half and controlled the ball better, but didn't come up with the result they wanted.

Freshman Katelyn Streeter (Oakfield) played goalkeeper and recorded seven saves.
