Senior midfielder Dana Schmidt scored the game-winning goal to lift the Lakeland College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in Northern Athletics Conference action Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, the Muskies (5-13, 3-7 NAC) took advantage on a free kick when Schmidt (Menasha) made a far-post run and scored just outside the six-yard box. Senior Kristi Borts (Milwaukee) placed a beautiful ball to Schmidt from the Muskies' own half.
Lakeland controlled much of the game and the Muskies' defense came up big with a couple of saves. Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Streeter (Oakfield) recorded three saves for the game.
"We did a good job controlling the ball today," said head coach Tony Pierce. "Kristi and Dana gave a great effort when they combined for the goal. This is a big win for us and I'm happy with the girl's play today."
