Chitwood, Mueller dominate Falcons as Muskies snap streak

The Lakeland College baseball team snapped its five-game losing streak and swept a double-header for the first time this season, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin on Monday.

The Muskies (10-18, 5-11 NAC) won game one 1-0 and took game two 2-1.

In game one, the Muskies sent sophomore right-hander Andy Chitwood (W, 2-4) (Muscoda, Wis.) to the hill and he didn't disappoint. Chitwood pitch eight scoreless innings; allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out three. He had a no-hitter broken up on an infield single in the seventh inning. Senior David Novak (2) (Algoma, Wis.) got the save, working around a lead-off walk to nail down the win.

Lakeland's lone run came in the fourth inning, as Mike Ruzek (Manitowoc, Wis.) came around to score when Garrett Vincetich-Morris (Janesville, Wis.) reached on an error. It was all the offense either team would produce in a game that lasted just 1:45.

Ruzek, freshman Ryan Boettcher (Bonduel, Wis.) and Novak had Lakeland's only three hits.
In game two, the Muskies got another dominate performance by freshman righty Andrew Mueller (Horicon, Wis.). Mueller threw seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits while walking two and striking out one. He wouldn't factor into the decision as senior Andrew "Woody" Schartner (W, 1-3) (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) would get the win, pitching two innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking one and striking out two.

Lakeland got on the board first, with sophomore David Cherney (Green Bay, Wis.) scored on a Vincetich-Morris RBI single in the second inning. Both pitchers would settle in and neither team would score until the eighth.

The Falcons would score after the Muskies couldn't convert a double-play that would've ended the inning, scoring one run on one hit with the error allowing the run to score.

The Muskies kept battling and would get a walk-off RBI single from Chitwood, scoring Ruzek and giving the Muskies their first back-to-back wins since returning from Fort Myers, Fla.

Vincetich-Morris led the Muskies at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. Seven other Muskies had one hit each.
