Davis and Freitag lead Muskies past Raiders, move closer to NAC berth

Athletics - posted on 10/21/2011

The Lakeland College women's volleyball team moved closer to a Northern Athletics Conference playoff berth with a three set (25-18, 25-20, 25-23) victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night.

The Muskies (8-18, 5-6 NAC) continued to play consistent volleyball and look to be a dangerous team.

"We played really well tonight," said Lakeland head coach Jon Staabs. "We got strong performances from Allison (Davis) and Katie (Freitag) that allowed us to play solid volleyball. Katie was comfortable on the right side and had a good game blocking and hitting, as well as with her serve. We played well as a team and now we just have one more match to go."

Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.) led the team with 13 kills, while Freitag (Kiel, Wis.) added nine kills, a game-high four service aces, and a block. Amanda Dillman (Sheboygan, Wis.) also had nine kills and a match-high .471 hitting percentage.

Sophomore setter Melissa Christiansen (Valders, Wis.) had 24 assists and Anna Faust led the team with ten digs.

The Muskies close out their regular season NAC schedule with a home contest against Rockford College on tomorrow, Oct. 22, at Noon. It is also senior day for the Muskies with special recognition being given to senior middle hitter Allison Davis.
