Bench helps lead Muskies past Lions

The Lakeland College women's basketball team won in convincing fashion on Wednesday night defeating visiting Finlandia University, 67-37.

The Muskies (7-4) got antoher strong performance from senior Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.) who followed her career-high 18-point performance on Tuesday nigh with her first double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Lakeland never trailed in the game, scoring 29 points off 35 Finlandia turnovers. The Muskies also got another great night from their bench which scored 31 of the teams 67 points. While the guards continued to struggle from the 3-point arc, the post players stepped up, as the Muskies dominated the paint, outscoring the Lions 34-8.

Davis wasn't the only player to record a double-double as senior Alyssa Schuttenhelm (Waterford, Wis.) added 10 points and 11 rebounds while junior Becky Mayo (Gladstone, Mich.) added 12 points and seven boards.

The Muskies return to action with a Northern Athletics Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 7, as they travel to Rockford College. Tip is 2 p.m.
