MEQUON, Wis. - Sophomore Chelsea Gile hit her second home run of the week to power the Lakeland College softball team to an 8-6 win in game one over Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies (13-9, 8-2) dropped game two, an 8-2 decision, to the Falcons, but remain in second place in the NAC and look to remain atop tomorrow as they host Dominican University in a doubleheader.
Gile led Lakeland to a come-from-behind win when she hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to spark the Muskies win. Lakeland was down 2-6 heading into the sixth, but freshman Kaitlyn Hoffmann hit a single to score two runs and pulled the Muskies within two as Gile finished off the game.
On the mound, junior pitcher Erin Henk recorded her third save of year, while freshman Amanda Graves recorded her second win of the season.
Lakeland couldn't carry its momentum into game two, despite posting an early 2-0 lead over the Falcons in the first four innings. Sophomore Sammy Rieder hit a two-run home run to lead Lakeland, but the bats went quiet for the Muskies after the first inning. Concordia Wisconsin used a four-run fourth inning to pull ahead and maintained its lead with solid pitching. The Falcon's Danielle Burke pitched a complete game and recorded four strikeouts, while holding the Muskies to five hits.
Rieder ended game two 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while senior Leah Sheahan went 2-for-3.
The Muskies return to action tomorrow in a NAC doubleheader against Dominican. First pitch is slated for Noon.
