Junior forward Jake Schwarz and senior point guard Josh Regal posted a double-digit performance to lead the Lakeland College men's basketball team to a 77-58 win against Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., Saturday evening.
Schwarz (Sheboygan) led all scorers with 22 points, 20 of those coming in the second half, while Regal (Suring) recorded 19 points and five assists on 4-for-8 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.
The Muskies (3-1) improve to 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference as they shot an impressive 59.3 percent from the floor in the second half, including 53.8 percent from 3-point range.
Junior guard Rylee Hernandez (St. Paul, Minn.) sparked the Muskies run in the first half when he hit a 3-pointer at the 7:11 mark to take a 32-28 lead at halftime.
The team never relinquished its lead and led by as many as 21 points in the second half. Lakeland scored 16 points off of 19 Star turnovers, while posting a 17-11 assist-to-turnover ratio itself.
"Dominican came out with a ton of energy," said head coach Aaron Aanonsen. "They did a good job putting us into foul trouble in the first half, but after the half we got better looks at the basket and were able to convert. We played a better inside game and brought a more physical presence to force them to turn the ball over."
For the game Lakeland shot 44.8 percent from the floor and hit 14 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Justin Ward (Wisconsin Dells) scored nine points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
The Muskies return to NAC action on Dec. 7 as they host Edgewood College for a 7 p.m. in the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
