Hot-shooting Muskies too much for Concordia Chicago

Athletics - posted on 12/10/2011

Sophomore James Oshkeshequoam and junior Jake Schwarz combined for 51 points, including a career-high 25 points from Oshkeshequoam to lead the Lakeland College men's basketball team to a 94-72 win over Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon at Woltzen gym.

Lakeland (4-2, 3-1 NAC) rebounded well after a disappointing loss to Edgewood on Dec. 7 and shot 52.6 percent from the floor, including 41.7 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

The Muskies led for the majority of the game after Oshkeshequoam hit a 3-pointer at the 18:21 mark in the first half and sparked the team's convincing Northern Athletics Conference cross-division win. The Cougars' only lead in the game came at the 18:41 mark when Alphonso Dunbar hit a 3-pointer to go up 3-0.

Lakeland took a 20-point, 48-28 lead at halftime and led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

Defensively the Muskies turned 24 Cougar turnovers into 26 points, while posting a 22-14 assist-to-turnover ratio themselves. Sophomore forward Justin Ward (Wisconsin Dells) posted a 17-point performance and went 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Schwarz (Sheboygan) scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while senior Josh Regal (Suring) chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and eight assists.

Oshkeshequoam (Keshena) ended the night 8-for-11 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers.
