The Lakeland soccer team started LMC play with a 5-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Sept. 25 on the Lakeland campus. The Muskies were led with two goals in the second half by freshman Ted Cormier.
The Muskies came out firing in the first half, tallying nine shots. Lakeland broke through when freshman Seth Walsdorf collected a pass from freshman Kevin Fitchett and put the ball in the back of the net.
After taking the 1-0 lead into the half, sophomore Zach Buchman scored in the 58th minute when he scored off a free kick from about 30 yards out. Nine minutes later sophomore Ryan Condon had a one on one with the goaltender and beat him to make the score 3-0.
Cormier scored both of his goals just four minutes apart. After he put in his first of the day off of a deflection, to give the Muskies a 4-0 lead, in the 74th minute he netted his second goal when freshman Gabriel Hernandez-Garcia got him the ball in the 78th minute.
With the win the Muskies improved to 2-5-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the LMC. The Muskies travel to Edgewood on Wednesday, Sept. 28 for another LMC match-up at 7p.m.
