The Lakeland Muskies volleyball defeated the Alverno Inferno 3-0 (30-10, 30-18, 30-22) on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium on the Lakeland campus.

"I thought we played sound volleyball," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "I would have liked to have seen us play more aggressive though. We need to still find a more aggressive component to our game if we're going to win more matches."

The Muskies were led tonight by sophomore middle hitter Shelly Bruni. The Juneau native hit .545, while recording two blocks in the match for the Muskies.

"I thought we played pretty well," said Bruni. "There was a couple areas that we do need to improve on, but there are a couple areas that we need to improve on more and more every game we play. We had great teamwork and I thought we did very well."

The Muskies were able to jump out to the early lead in games one and two thanks to strong serving throughout the match. Seniors Magan Maas and Sarah Buechel led the team with three service aces each.

"We are probably one of the best if not the best serving teams in the conference and we ran up against a team that has struggled in serve receive so that was a bad match-up for them," said Schreiber. "When we are serving aggressively they're going to struggle."

With the win Schreiber moves to within one win of his 200th collegiate career victory.

The Muskies will travel to Milwaukee for a triangular match against MSOE and Dominican on Friday, Sept. 30 before returning home for another LMC triangular against Marian and Concordia on Saturday, Oct. 1.
