Freshmen steal the show as Muskies sweep Warhawks on senior night

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team got a much needed Wisconsin Volleyball Conference win on Thursday night, defeating UW-Whitewater 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 26-24).

The Muskies (11-12, 5-5 WVC) made some mistakes, but would not be denied on senior night.

Seniors Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Daniel Sheets-Poling (Plainfield, Ill.) were honored before the game as part of the senior night festivities and they wouldn't disappoint on the court. Sheets-Poling was a force at the net, tallying six kills, while Cheever continued his stellar defensive play, collecting 14 digs.

Two freshmen would steal the show though, as outside hitter Alec Redlich (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and setter Dayton Erickson (Trevor, Wis.) led the Muskie attack. Redlich tallied a team-high 20 kills and four aces, while Erickson collected 48 assists and six digs.

Lakeland returns to action on Thursday, March 22, when the Muskies travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to face WVC foe Marquette University. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m.
