Dadzie scores twice as Muskie men win non-conference match

Athletics - posted on 9/16/2012

Farouk Dadzie(Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored twice and Paul Elzinga (So.-Howards Grove, Wis.) converted a pair of penalty kicks as the Lakeland College men's soccer team shut out Robert Morris University-Lake County (Ill.) 4-0 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.

The Muskies received a challenge from the visitors, needing two goals just over a minute apart late in the second half to finally pull away. Lakeland controlled possession much of the match though and moved to 2-2-1 overall this season.

Dadzie scored just 6:23 into the match to give the Muskies an early lead, receiving an assist from Daiya Akiyama (Sr.-Ichihara, Japan). He also added a second goal in the 74th minute after a pass from Justin Blauert (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) for his third goal of the season and what turned out to be the final goal of the match.

In between Dadzie's goals the Muskies best offense proved to be the penalty kick. A pair of fouls in the box gave Elzinga penalty kick chances, and he converted both, the first coming midway through the second half and the second at 72:55 of the match to make it 3-0.

Lakeland outshot the Eagles 16-6, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Dadzie and Elzinga both led the team with four shots on goal each.

Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) made two saves in goal for his first shutout of the season. Arturo Escobedo and Jordan Zamudio combined to make three saves for Robert Morris-Lake County, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Muskies take to the road Tuesday for another non-conference match, facing Millikin (Ill.) University at 4:30 p.m. in Decatur, Ill.
