DECATUR, ILL. - Stuart Ball recorded a goal and an assist for Millkin (Ill.) University as the Lakeland College men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match.
Ball scored 5:32 into the match to put the Big Blue ahead and the Muskies never were able to even the score, dropping to 2-3-1 overall. Millikin, a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, improved to 3-4 overall.
Ball scored early with an assist from Jeffrey Grimes for the match's first goal as Millikin led 1-0 at halftime. The Big Blue added a second goal less than ten minutes into the second half as Ed Stalter scored with an assist from Ball at 54:19 of the match.
The Muskies were outshot 15-7 for the match, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal for Millikin. Paul Elzinga (So.-Howards Grove, Wis.) took three of Lakeland's four shots on goal with Justin Blauert (Jr.-De Pere, Wis.) adding two shots, including one shot on goal.
Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) made six saves in goal for Lakeland. Daniel Sinclair made four saves to get the shutout for the Big Blue.
Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference play on Saturday when it faces Benedictine (Ill.) University at home at 3:30 p.m.
