Lakeland College freshman men's golfer Matt Lewellyn (Oshkosh, Wis.) is the recipient of this week's Muskie of the Week award.
Lewellyn receives the honor after a terrific first round at the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Whistling Straits Irish Course. Lewellyn is tied for first individually after Round 1 of the tournament after shooting a score of two-over par 74. He won medalist honors for the round on the basis of a scorecard playoff, and it was his best round of the fall season by six strokes. Lewellyn's performance helped Lakeland to a solid fourth-place finish as a team after one round, and he will hold his lead in the championship until the spring, when the final three rounds of the conference championship will be played.
The result was Lewellyn's first medalist honor as a Muskies. As a freshman Lewellyn led the Muskie men's golf team in the fall with an 82.3 stroke average per 18 holes. He and the rest of the team will continue their season in the spring, with the remainder of the NAC Championship as well as other events.
