LA CROSSE, Wis. - Alec Redlich (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) set a new Lakeland College men's volleyball club single-match kills record, but UW-La Crosse emerged from a tight match to defeat the Muskies in four sets Friday night.
Redlich registered 28 kills and just four errors in 54 attack attempts. He broke his own school record of 27 kills in a match set last year on March 22 against Marquette.
Despite Redlich's big hitting, the Muskies couldn't pull through in several sets that went down to the end. UW-L won 25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 28-26, dealing Lakeland its fifth loss in Wisconsin Volleyball Conference play.
Brett Kaczmarek (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) added 14 kills and Dayton Erickson (So.-Trevor, Wis.) finished with 44 assists. Cole Aiazzi (So.-Yerington, Nev.) also had 21 digs, the fifth-most in a match in the school's men's volleyball history.
Lakeland bounced back on Saturday for a 3-1 win over UW-Platteville. The Muskies lost the first set but came back for a 22-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 win, improving to 8-5 in the WVC and 16-11 this season.
Erickson added 42 assists against the Pioneers, and Redlich and Aiazzi combined for 25 digs.
Lakeland next will face Marquette on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium in the Muskies' final home match of the season.
