Athletics - posted on 11/19/2005
The Lakeland women's basketball team won their first game of the season, picking up third place in the 2005 "Play with Grace" Tip-Off Tournament with a 51-45 win over Clarke College (Iowa).
Lakeland fell behind early as Clarke built an eight point lead (10-2) four minutes into the game. But the Muskies would chip away at the Clarke lead, and head into the locker room at the half, up by four (26-22).
In the second half, it was all Lakeland, as the junior Danielle Duranceau (Waukesha/Waukesha West) poured in eight points and grabbed four rebounds in the second half to seal the deal for the Muskies.
Making the All-Tournament team for the Muskies were seniors Kristi Thill (Garden, Mich./Big Bay de Noc) and Beth Porter (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East). Thill scored 13 points and snagged five rebounds in the win against Clarke. Porter added 11 points and four rebounds for the Muskies.
Lakeland will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they will face Rockford College. Game time is set for 5:30p.m. at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
