MILWAUKEE - The Lakeland College men's volleyball team won two of five matches at the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Midwest 10 qualifier date held Saturday at Marquette University.
The Muskies sandwiched wins over UW-Milwaukee in three sets (13-25, 25-20, 15-12) and Ball State (Ind.) in two sets (25-23, 25-18) around a narrow loss to UW-Oshkosh (19-25, 25-18, 13-15) in their first three matches. Lakeland concluded the day with two-set losses to Notre Dame (22-25, 16-25) and Marquette (19-25, 21-25), finishing the day with a 6-5 overall record this season.
The Muskies opened with a good win over a solid UW-Milwaukee team, as Matt Bilinski (Jr.-Batavia, Ill.) recorded nine kills in 15 attempts. Lakeland followed with a tough loss to Oshkosh but showing great improvement over the two teams' meeting earlier in the week, when the Titans swept the Muskies in three sets in a best-of-five match.
Lakeland added a second win against Ball State, as Alec Redlich (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) piled up 11 kills and Brett Kaczmarek and Cole Aiazzi (So.-Yerington, Nev.) combined for seven service aces.
Redlich led the Muskie attack with 51 kills on the day and a .356 attack percentage. Kaczmarek added 33 kills and a team-high seven service aces, and also tied Bilinski for the team lead with seven blocks.
Dayton Erickson (So.-Trevor, Wis.) and Aiazzi shared setting duties on the day, with Erickson totaling 47 assists and Aiazzi adding 40. Jeremy Bolnius (So.-Roselle, Ill.) paced the team with 29 digs.
Lakeland is home for its next match Wednesday night, when the Muskies host UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium.
