I have emerged from the darkness of our winter semester, and I am now ready to move on.  This means I'll be spending yet another year honor marshalling at our annual commencement.

Honor marshalling has become an event that I've learned to like over the past few years.  The first year I had no idea what was going on, but now I feel like a seasoned veteran.  This year I will be carrying the American flag which, for me, will be holding a great amount of emotional value.  If my parents were still alive they would be proud of me, and this duty will be in their honor.

Yes, another year of school is coming to a close for me.  And I must admit, I approach this end of the year with a bit of sadness.  Friends who I spent time with daily will now no longer be there.  Discussion of academics, philosophy, and extracurricular activities will now need to take place with new friends.  I've grown up, in effect, with many of the people who will be graduating in a few short days.  I'm happy for what they have accomplished but sad to see them go.

Commencement is a great time to give closure to one's college career.  I can see a difference in the eyes of the graduates once they travel the stage and grasp that piece of paper in their hand--they've accomplished a great feat.

To all of you who are graduating this weekend, I congratulate you.  To those who will be spending a few more semesters here, I'll see you around campus.
