Change at the Top: April Arvan Leaving Basketball Court for Classroom

After 13 seasons, 266 wins and a lifetime of memories, April Arvan is finally getting around to the career she went to college for in the first place.

Arvan announced today she is leaving her post as Lakeland College's head women's basketball coach to become a full-time faculty member and a leader in Lakeland's new fitness and sports studies major.

Adam Plach

The 6-foot-5 senior middle hitter has continued to keep the squad clicking on all cylinders during his fifth season with the Muskies.

At the Hoosier-Illini Classic on Feb. 24 and 25, the Hanover Park, Ill., native helped Lakeland to a 5-1 record for the weekend, recording a personal tournament-high seven kills and three digs in a 2-0 win over Western Illinois (25-16, 25-17) in the first match of the gold playoffs on Sunday.

As one of the Muskies' go-to middle hitters, the 6-foot-6 junior was instrumental in helping the squad conquer Wisconsin Volleyball Conference rival Marquette last Thursday, 3-0 (30-20-30-22, 30-28).

The Fort Atkinson, Wis., native helped lead Lakeland's offensive drive with 14 kills on 77 percent hitting while also chipping in three blocks.

Muskies Down Marquette, Move into 1st in WVC

Despite a neck-and-neck score throughout game three, the Lakeland College men's volleyball team, ranked fifth in the nation, downed a No. 16 Marquette squad, 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-28), in Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match play on Thursday, March 1, in Lakeland's Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The win allowed the Muskies to move into first place in the WVC, as both teams were undefeated leading up to the match.
