2007 Lakeland Football Preview

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Lakeland College football team saw a major change when camp started this August with a brand new coaching staff, led by first-year head coach Kevin Doherty. But one thing that isn't as new is the faces of many players, as the Muskies welcome back 13 of 19 all-Illini-Badger Football Conference honorees from last fall.

Joe Puhl

The 6-foot senior will be a major force on the offensive line for the Muskies this season, as his experience and vocal leadership have the ability to aid the squad's level of intensity.

A senior from Ontonagon, Mich., Puhl has developed into one of the top offensive linemen in the Illini-Badger Football Conference. The guard was a first team all-IBFC honoree last fall after earning honorable all-IBFC honors as a sophomore.

Ashley Domask

The 5-foot-8 senior outside hitter provided some steady play for the Muskies in their season-opening tournament at Elmhurst College this past weekend, averaging 12 kills per game throughout the squad's four games.

An honorable mention All-Northern Athletics Conference honoree last season, Domask also played a key role in helping the squad grab a win over Elmhurst in the first game of the tournament, knocking down a tournament team-high 18 kills and adding six digs. She also totaled 39 digs for the tournament.

Eyes on the Prize: Muskies Look to Revive Winning Ways

After making a habit of dominating the former Lake Michigan Conference with five straight conference titles, the Lakeland College women's volleyball team had a rough season in the new Northern Athletics Conference in 2006. The Muskies (18-18) finished fourth in the NAC at 8-3 and bowed out of the conference tournament after a first round 3-1 loss to Maranatha Baptist.

However, the squad's future is looking much more hopeful this fall as the team returns its entire starting lineup of players that gained at least one year of collegiate experience working together last season. According to head coach Chad Schreiber, the team's new-found motivation and returning experience have the potential to get the Muskies back to the level of success they have enjoyed in past years.
