Lakeland Wrestlers Turning Heads with Big Early-Season Performances

With several wins over some big-name wrestlers and wrestling programs and a roster full of talent pushing each other for time on the mat, the Lakeland College wrestling team is attracting plenty of attention in the wrestling world.

The Muskies are 3-2 in dual meets and had a strong second-place finish at Saturday's Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational, finishing just two points behind Invite winner UW-Platteville.

Aaron Regal

The 5-foot-10 senior guard has played a major role in helping the Muskies achieve an impressive 2-0 start in Northern Athletics Conference play this season, with decisive wins over Edgewood College, 70-57, on Wednesday and Concordia University, Wis., 96-81, on Saturday.

The Suring native dropped a remarkable 21 points in each game, shooting 50 percent from 3-point range and knocking down a perfect 6-6 of his attempts from the free-throw line against Edgewood, and shooting 70 percent from the floor at Concordia.

KC Blahnik

The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard has stepped up her efforts in this season's early games, and leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12 points per game and five rebounds per game.

Although the Muskies had a rough week last week, going 0-3 with a non-conference loss to Carroll College and a pair of Northern Athletics Conference losses to Edgewood College and Concordia University, Wis., the Gladstone, Mich., native turned out high-points performances at Carroll with 14 and had racked up 17 against Edgewood.

Track & Field Team to Hold Informational Meeting on Monday, Dec. 3

The Lakeland College track and field team will be holding an informational meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, to discuss the upcoming 2008 season. The meeting will be held in the Wehr Center Multipurpose Room at 8 p.m.

Head Coach David Brooks will be on hand to answer the questions of prospective team members, and encourages anyone who has an interest in track to attend the meeting as no previous experience is necessary.
