Lakeland Basketball Teams Kick Off NAC Schedules
Lakeland's basketball teams kicked off their Northern Athletics Conference schedules on Saturday, splitting their games with Aurora University.
The women's squad defeated the Spartans, picked third in the conference preseason coaches' poll, by a score of 65-54 and held their top scorers to well below their averages.
Despite putting up a big 94-point effort, the men's team was unable to complete the day's sweep of Aurora, as the Spartans topped the century mark for a 101-94 win.

Despite battling some preseason injuries, the sophomore forward has appeared unfazed in competition so far this season, leading the Muskies with 23.5 points per game and shooting nearly 48 percent.
On Saturday, "Rog" led the team in a valiant effort in the opening game of their Northern Athletics Conference schedule against Aurora University, although the Muskies were defeated 101-94.

Vanden Hoogen
The 6-foot-2 heavyweight has started off his senior year with a bang, compiling a 10-0 record so far this season. At this past Saturday's invite at Milwaukee School of Engineering, the Green Bay native won the heavyweight division championship as the No. 1 seed, recording two pins for the day.
First he took down UW-Platteville's Justin Washington in 4:17, then he pinned Joe Rodriquez of UW-Oshkosh 2:46 into the semi-final match to move on to the championship round.

Muskies Take Third at MSOE Invite
The Lakeland Muskies wrestling team took third place, with 68 points, out of eight teams at the MSOE Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 2. The Muskies had three wrestlers win the championship at their weight class in sophomore David Copp (125), junior Paul Hartt (184) and senior Mark Vanden Hoogen (285).
"Overall I was really proud of the way we wrestled," said Lakeland head coach Pete Rogers. "We wrestled some tough guys and we walked away with quite a few wins."
