- ABOUT LAKELAND
The 1862 Society gathered on the Lakeland College baseball diamond for a "Field of Dreams" event. After cocktails in the dugout, the group moved inside just in time to dodge the rain. Guests were greeted with the music of Vaguely Familiar, a Barbershop Quartet. The national anthem was sung and dinner began. Throughout dinner there were three theatrical presentations. First up to bat was Professor J. Garland Schilcutt with a reading of Casey at the Bat. Next up was Jim Cape and Charlie Krebs performing Who's on First? After a meal filled with American favorites including Cracker Jack, Chicago style hotdogs, soft pretzels and apple pie, the group was led in the 7th inning stretch by 1862 Society members Bill Younger and Bob Leverenz. The evening concluded with a Field of Dreams reading by Allan Mitchler.
