Charlie Krebs challenged his students, and many of them rose to the occasion. Krebs, Lakeland’s associate professor of theatre and speech, recently offered students in his public speaking class extra credit. Members of two Lakeland College fraternities and a sorority traveled to Sheboygan North High School on Saturday and volunteered their time to help make the school’s large wrestling invitational a success. There were 23 high school teams from around the state gathered for this large invite. Mu Lambda Sigma member Andrew Wagner coaches at North, so he asked fraternity brothers Alex Busch, Jake Dueppen and Chandler Watson to help with scoring and other mat-side tasks. Two Lakeland College business students teamed up to finish among the best in the nation last fall in GLO-BUS, a worldwide, web-based business simulation game. Yuka Nakamura and Hikaru Kinoshita, enrolled in Lakeland’s Global Marketing and Management Strategies course, were ranked in the top 100 worldwide among 2,679 teams from 152 college and universities involved in the GLO-BUS competition. Wisconsin artists and teachers Lori Beringer and Dale Knaak opened their month-long exhibit at the Lakeland College Bradley Gallery on Friday afternoon with a well-attended reception. Beringer and Knaak shared their background and thoughts about their art and art in general. They also answered questions from members of the audience and interacted with Bill Weidner, associate professor of art and co-director of the gallery. Britanni Meinnert was a small-town girl with big-time dreams of using higher education to experience the world. “I initially got into the hospitality industry major so that I could get out of this area,” says the Kiel, Wis., native with a smile. “But I never left.
