Two Lakeland College hospitality management students completed an exciting four-day internship last week at an internationally known convention in Washington, D.C. Noel TenPas and Janel Weir both worked at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference 2016. They were among 400 students chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants to help handle logistics at this mammoth event – which hosted more than 15,000 people. Representatives from 14 Sheboygan area companies and organizations visited campus for last week’s Summer Employment and Internship Fair. The 2 ½-hour event, sponsored by Lakeland’s Student Success & Engagement Office, gave Lakeland students the opportunity to learn face-to-face about local summer employment and internship opportunities. Four talented Lakeland College musicians performed during the Spring Honors Recital in the Bradley Theatre last week. Jacob Nault, a tenor, started the concert by singing “Autumn Evening.” He was accompanied by Katie Christenson on piano. Siera Ramirez, a soprano, then performed “Madrigal.” She, too, was accompanied by Christenson. Soprano Tia Prebbernow, accompanied by pianist Elisabeth Daniels, Lakeland adjunct instructor of music, sang “The Red Dress.” And capping off the concert was Christenson, who performed “L’isle Joyeuse” on piano.

Students in Lakeland’s spring semester food, beverage and labor cost controls class recently finished second in the management competition at the Midwest Foodservice Expo in Milwaukee. The class is part of Lakeland’s hospitality management program. Lakeland College graduate Grace Vos holds the difficult job of trying to help heal the most broken hearts. It’s emotionally taxing work.
