Standing at the center of the Lakeland College campus, you may feel like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of a major city. You're not.

Not far from the campus you'll find all of the amenities offered by a major city.

The City of Sheboygan, population 50,000, is eleven miles from the campus. Sheboygan offers excellent dining, an active and vibrant local music scene, bicycle trails, a weekend farmers market, excellent shopping areas, and a beautiful lakefront. The Stefanie H. Weill Center and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center serve as focal points for cultural and community activities in this beautiful city.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is recognized for its "collection of folk art, vernacular art, and works by self-taught artists, as well as its support of emerging contemporary artists. The art center's 100,000-square-foot facility features 10 galleries, a theatre, shop, and café, as well as studio classrooms and meeting space."

The Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts evolved out of the $11 million restoration of the historic Sheboygan Theater. The Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style movie-theater was built in the 1920's and serves now as the home to the Sheboygan Symphony concerts and live guest appearances by many well-known artists.

Sheboygan County, on the western coast of Lake Michigan, offers a wide variety of activities and a great quality of life. The diverse communities of Sheboygan County offer urban and rural lifestyles, powerful industry, sophisticated performing and visual arts, The American Club in Kohler — the Midwest's only AAA Five Diamond resort, Road America — a legendary road racetrack in Elkhart Lake, vast opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, multiple educational venues, and some of the best critics-choice dining in the state.

The county boasts five world-class golf courses, and the area hosted the 1998 US Women's Open, the 2004 and 2010 PGA Championships and will host the 2012 PGA Championship, the 2015 U.S. Women's Open and the 2020 Ryder Cup. In 2011, the area will host the International Sailing Federation Grand Final of the Nations Cup.

The county is company headquarters for, among others, Kohler Co., Bemis Corporation, Sargento, Inc., Johnsonville Sausage, Vollrath Co. Plastics Engineering Co., Piggly Wiggly Stores and Masters Gallery. The area is also within an hour's drive of the great cities of Milwaukee and Green Bay, and in an additional hour you can be in Madison or approaching Chicago.
