Joseph BotanaJoseph Botana brings a wide range of skills and experiences, along with a good dose of enthusiasm, into his classroom. Joe joined Lakeland College in 1986 after working several years in the private sector, and currently serves the college as Vice President for Finance & Chief Financial Officer, in addition to his teaching duties. He brings real-life financial experience to the Lakeland classes he teaches - accounting, international business strategy, MIS in the MBA program, auditing and global village. He also teaches at Lakeland's sister school, ECIT in Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China. He is a regular speaker to community and student groups on a variety of subjects, including education, technology, and business. He is fluent in Spanish. James KudekMr. James Kudek, Associate Professor of Business Administration, has been a member of the faculty since 1982. He teaches courses in business administration and accounting and is especially interested in personal finance and individual spending habits. Kudek is currently completing a study of best practices in cost accounting. He is also active in the community, assisting with several initiatives to promote economic literacy. In his spare time, Kudek enjoys gardening, fishing, and ornithology. Abe QastinMr. Abdul Qastin, Bemis Professor of Accounting, joined the faculty in 1985. Qastin participates regularly in the International MBAA conference. In his spare time, he volunteers at his church and attends weekly forums on local business issues. He also enjoys gardening and walking. J. Garland SchilcuttDr. J. Garland Schilcutt, Professor of Business Administration, holds the distinction of Lakeland's longest-serving faculty member, with a tenure of over fifty years. Schilcutt, or "Prof" as he is better known, teaches courses in business protocol and accounting. He is also the Chair of the Business Administration Division. Among his many awards, Schilcutt recently received the college's highest honor, the Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Schilcutt also enjoys playing the piano and traveling. Among his most memorable trips are ones to Thailand, Kenya, Eastern Europe, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Adina SchwartzMs. Adina Schwartz, Associate Professor of Economics, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She has been teaching for the college since 1984. Among her accomplishments, Schwartz received the 2004 Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award. Students may be interested to know that she is fluent in Hebrew and Romanian and served as a sergeant in the Israeli army. Schwartz is married, has one daughter and three stepchildren. Charles StockmanA driving force behind the creation of Lakeland's popular resort management program, Chuck Stockman teaches students how to open doors to a myriad of career possibilities. A member of Lakeland's faculty since 1994, Stockman worked in the hotel and restaurant industry for almost two decades before becoming an educator. In addition to leading a dynamic classroom, Stockman has taken several groups to South Korea where students get hands-on experience working at the luxury COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul. His students have served internships in Guam, Scotland, Walt Disney World, Arizona, Alaska and the Kohler Co. properties. He was named the Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award winner in 2009.
