Have you ever dreamed of studying in a foreign country? Leaving class and stepping out into the crowded streets of Tokyo, or staring up at the beautiful architecture of Kassel, Germany, or having class in the middle of a tropical forest or coral reef?
At Lakeland College, students have the opportunity to do all of these things and more as part of the Lakeland College Study Abroad Program.
The most prominent Lakeland College Study Abroad Program by far is the opportunity to study at our campus in Tokyo. Lakeland College Japan offers a fully-accredited curriculum in the liberal arts in the heart of the world's largest metropolitan area.
But Japan isn't the only educational destination our students travel to:
Lakeland maintains an exchange program in Germany. All students with knowledge of German, regardless of major, are eligible for the foreign study semester at Hessen Universitaet in Kassel, Germany or the Universität Marburg in Marburg. Lakeland has been sending students to the Universität Kassel since 1971.
All Lakeland College majors — especially Resort Management and Spanish majors — wishing to experience and become educated in the areas of hospitality, the Spanish language, and travel and tourism can also study in Cancun, México. The travel portion of the course will include a 6-night/7-day trip to Cancun, México, where students will tour local resorts, enjoy sightseeing trips to tourist attractions, visit ancient Mayan ruins and explore the early Mexican culture.
Of course, not all programs use the classroom to teach. Lakeland's tropical studies course is an advanced, four-credit, May Term course on tropical forest and coral reef ecology that takes place primarily during a 15-day trek in Belize. The focus of the course is experiential learning in Belize along with formal lectures by both the Lakeland instructors and faculty on site in Belize.
And with sister-school relationships with colleges and universities in China, Colombia, Germany, Korea, and Taiwan, students have a plethora of options to study abroad.
