Why Should I get involved?

Students get involved for many different reasons based on their individual needs and desires. What you get out of it varies with your individual contribution, but most students say they receive great personal success and have the most fun of their life being involved in college!

Academic Clubs

American Humanics Student Association (AHSA)

President: Jenn Graff
This group introduces the world of nonprofit organization to students and educates them on possible career and leadership opportunities in the field.

Chemistry Club

President: Jessica Gagnon
The Chemistry Club is a Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society and its goal is to foster interest in Chemistry and to help the public develop an appreciation for the way in which Chemistry has enriched their lives and contributed to the betterment of society in general.

CAPSLOCK (Computer Science)

President: Chris Retlich
This organization is designed to provide a vehicle for dialogue and discussion centering around the field of computing and telecommunications, is dedicated to promoting the professional development and intellectual growth of students in the computer science field, and expands access to information and experiences beyond those provided in the academic offerings at Lakeland College.

Criminal Justice Association (CJA)

President: Anthony Juliano
This chapter organization was established to enable Lakeland's Criminal Justice students to explore career opportunities in the field and extend their expertise into the outer community. Their mission statement is "To supply an understanding of the Criminal Justice system and offer job opportunities to students."

Mortar Board

President: Dino Mujakovic
A national honor society, Gold Key Society/Mortar Board recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes community service and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community. Members are selected in the spring of their junior year to serve as active members during their senior year.

Phi Alpha Theta (History honor society)

Advisor: Richard Wixon
Phi Alpha Theta is an honor society specifically for students interested in history. For more information please contact the faculty advisor.

Pre–Health Care Club

President: Jennifer Huang
Pre-Health Care Club is to fosters interest in healthcare related fields with emphasis on community service and leadership. The club is a source for information and experience that help members to have a better understanding of their future careers in healthcare.

Resort Management Association (RMA)

This group helps broaden the minds of all Lakeland College student through active participation in community projects, guest speakers, and industry tours.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)

President: Kayla Ehlen
This organization provides college students the best opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise.

Psychology Club

President: Tanya Taylor
The Psychology Club provides information, leadership, and recognition through membership in the National Psychology Honor Society, Psi Chi.

Greek Organizations

Alpha Psi Alpha Sorority

President: Lanadra Cotton
Established in October of 1999, Alpha Psi Alpha is the newest Greek organization on the Lakeland College campus. Alpha Psi exists to enhance trust, scholarship, family and sisterhood. These lady A's stand to enrich and contribute to the Lakeland community in which they live. They are a sorority that thrives on community service. Yearly community service, clothing and food drives, and working with Lakeland College on many service events.

Beta Sigma Omega Fraternity

President: Ricardo Brown
Originally known on campus as the Black Student Organization, in 1986 a group of 20 men decided to become Greek to be more visible on campus. The Beta’s have done many community service projects including Adopt-a-Highway, Boys & Girls Club service, and volunteering at regional walks.

Mu Lambda Sigma

President: Steve Emory
Founded in 1932, Mu Lambda Sigma is the oldest Greek chapter at Lakeland. They are strong in brotherhood, tradition, and pride. They are a diverse group of individuals, from all walks of life, who have come together for the good of all.

Phi Delta Omega Sorority

President: Elizabeth Schrankler
Advisor: Sally Bork 920.565.1531
Founded in 1970, Phi Delta Omega owns a proud history of "service in threefold- God, community, and school." A diverse group in attitude and opinion, the Phi Delt's work through activities such as sorority-wide social events and retreats, to build a family network of trust and loyalty.

Pi Kappa Gamma Sorority

President: Jennifer Hoffman
Founded in 1968, Pi Kappa Gamma is the oldest sorority at Lakeland College. It was established to help women come forward, be recognized, and express themselves. They build strong, life-long friendships and practice trust and loyalty. The Pi Kapp’s provide opportunities for friends to come together and share time to learn and grow while having fun.

Zeta Chi Fraternity

President: Micheal Jarorsinski
The Zeta Chi Fraternity has been an organization of excellence on the Lakeland College campus since 1933. They are a Greek organization focused on hard work and dedication. Through campus and community service, they are a brotherhood committed to diversity and open-mindedness. Overall, this fraternity is an organization based on fun, trust, and friendship, enveloped with a brotherhood that is ever true to Zeta Chi.

Inter-Greek Council (IGC)

IGC is the governing board for all six social chapters. IGC as well helps promotes goodwill with Greeks, plan social events, and puts together events for campus.

Christian Organizations

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

President: Adam Plach
This group presents to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. FCA is open to all students. We meet to engage in athletic activities, group discussions, speakers, community service, and bible study.

Followers of God Christian Fellowship (F.O.G.)

F.O.G. is a Bible discussion group that meets weekly to discuss the issues in daily Christian life.

IMPACT

President: Precious Joiner
IMPACT brings the teachings of Christ to campus through bible study, discussion, church services, ministry and praise expression.

Student Christian Fellowship

President: Dale Yurs
This organization is here to provide a welcoming environment where students can explore their religious identity. We, also, provide fellowship for students, service for the community, and mission work. There will also be Bible study to help teach students about God.

Special Interest Organizations

Black Student Union(BSU)

President: Britini Parker
The Black Student Union has been established to meet the needs of African-American students on the Lakeland College campus. It provides support for African-American students as well as cultural awareness of the African heritage for all of the college community. Their mission statement is "To promote and supply an understanding of African American heritage and history."

Campus Players

President: Joseph Janisch / Samantha Tonn
A theatre group open to all students interested in the dramatic arts. This organization works with the musical on Lakeland's campus and is starting an improvisation group to perform on campus and in the community. Additionally, the students are performing a one-act play dealing with teen issues at area high schools. Their mission statement is "To supply the enjoyment and different aspects of theatre for students and perform."

Cheer Team

The Cheer Team promotes school spirit and provides support for athletics on campus by performing at games and events.

Circle K International

Captain: Markus Savaglio
This organization is a student-led organization that reaches leadership through service. Our mission is serving the children of the world.

College Democrats

President: Dale Yurs
The College Democrats educate and inform the student body about liberal political views.

Dance Team

President: Jennifer Hoffman
This alternative physical activity is open to all students with the interest and talent to perform on a dance team, which entertains audiences during sporting events. Dedication, hard work, a positive attitude, and a open mind are essential for the team to reach its goals. Their mission statement is: "To provide entertainment and promote school spirit at games and other events on campus. "

Farrago

President: Jessica Lillie/Hannah Lane
The Farrago is the student literary magazine, published once or twice each year, featuring the writing, artwork, and photography of Lakeland College students. Students interested in writing, editing, and/or designing the layout for The Farrago should contact the editor or the advisor.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender & Allies (GLBTA)

President: Zach Dekker
This organization aims to educate the Lakeland community about issues surrounding gender, identity, and sexuality. GLBTA also runs the Safe Space Program; where individuals can go to talk about there feelings and problems. The group also gives the opportunity for Allies to show support for members of the GLBTA. Everyone is included!

Genshiken

President: August Kelm
This group promotes interest in the viewing and appreciation of Japanese animation, graphic novels, as well as appreciation of musical scores and sound tracks based on or inspired by various Japanese animations and movies.

Global Student Association (GSA)

This group is open to all students interested in learning about various cultures and customs and strives to promote cultural appreciation through a wide variety of activities and events.

Habitat for Humanity

President: Amanda Gorshe
A branch of the national organization, Lakeland's Habitat for Humanity is active in fundraising and building efforts. Events include the annual Lakeland College Shantytown and the Spring Break Collegiate Challenge, where destinations have been Houston, Homestead, and Mexico City. Their mission statement is "To aid in reducing poverty around the world, focusing on local areas."

Korean Student Association (KSA)

KSA is for students to embrace the Korean culture and create community among Korean students on campus. Activities include group studying and contributions to Lakeland College.

Lakeland College Campus Activities Board (LC-CAB)

President: Joy Harvell
LC-CAB provides the Lakeland College campus with a varied program of social, cultural, and recreational activities. In addition to planning Family Weekend, Homecoming, Welcome Week, and Spring Fling, LC-CAB plans and promotes a variety of programs including comedians and concerts.

Lakeland College Service Group

President: Catherine Sims
The mission of the Lakeland College Service Group is to help communities throughout the world by lending a helping hand to the communities near Lakeland College. We will keep our local and world neighbors' best interests in our minds at all times in effort to support global kindness, peace, and unity. We will organize groups to volunteer to provide aid to our neighbors, and we will strive to nurture positive attitudes toward community service.

Lakeland College Theatre

Theatre Director: Charles Krevs
Lakeland College presents a minimum of two theatrical productions each year as Lakeland student productions. Popular and/or classical plays are chosen for performance by our Theatre and Speech professors.

The Mirror

Editor in Chief: Lori Sass
The Lakeland Mirror is the college newspaper. Students interested in news and feature writing, photography, creating cartoons, typing, editing, proofreading, and computer layout and design are invited to join the Mirror staff. In addition, The Mirror offers opportunities for business students and others interested in experience in advertising and business managing. You can earn one credit each semester by taking the Lakeland Mirror practicum class, which meets twice each week.

Spectrum/Year-disc

President: Beau Markut / Amanda Petermann
The Spectrum, Lakeland's CD year-disc, is produced by a staff of students in a one-credit practicum course which meets twice weekly during the lunch hour. The year-disc format offers students an opportunity to learn about video editing and web page design. If you are interested in photography, video, webpage design or selling advertising, please join this exciting effort and gain valuable professional multimedia experience.

Students Against Excessive Drinking (SAED)

President: Dale Yurs
This formally new organization was established on facts and the effects of too much drinking. This organization tries to help educate/ and perform on what really happens when you drink too much. SAED is not here to eliminate drinking on campus, but to encourage students not to over excessively drink.

Student Association (SA)

This student-run organization serves as the official representative of the student population at Lakeland College. It strives to provide a collective voice for all students and empower current and future students to advocate on their own behalf.

Students for Malawi

President: Crystal Peltier / Elisa Waltz
This organization creates awareness of Malawi, Africa by spreading knowledge of its culture and challenges to Lakeland and the surrounding communities and motivate people to engage themselves with us in making positive changes.

U.N.I.T.I.E.S (Using New Images To Implement Each Style)

President: Renesha Harris
To get people from different ethnics backgrounds to come together and dance all kinds of dances. This organization is to show every dance has an unique style.

 

Musical Groups

Lakeland College Band

Director: Dr. Walter Rich Ext. 1505
Membership is open to all Lakeland students upon audition. The band, primarily a concert organization, performs a diverse and challenging repertoire. In addition to four annual concerts, the group performs occasionally as a pep band for home athletic events and may go on tour.

Symphony Orchestra

Choral Conductor: Janet Herrick Ext. 1506
Membership in the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra is open to all Lakeland College students who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. The symphony performs challenging literature from all musical eras and provides accompaniment for several prominent guest artists each season. Prospective symphony members must complete a successful audition for the conductor.

Lakeland College Concert Choir

Conductor: Janet Herrick Ext. 1506
Membership in this choral ensemble is open to all Lakeland students upon audition. The choir tours annually, presents four concerts on campus and several concerts at off-campus churches and schools. A diverse repertoire of choral literature is performed including masterworks with orchestral accompaniment. The Concert Choir performs regularly with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.

Frauenchor (Women's Choir)

Conductor: Janet Herrick Ext. 1506
Membership in this choral ensemble is open to all Lakeland women upon audition. The choir will present three or four concerts on campus. Treble choral literature from the Renaissance to the twentieth century is studied and performed. Music written especially for female voices will be emphasized.

Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC)

To enhance our education through becoming involved with real life music students and teachers.

Becoming involved in your hall can create a strong community focused on your academic and personal well being. Talk to your Resident Assistant or Residence Hall Director about Hall Council, where you can create programs catered to your needs, influence your community, and make decisions about your hall budget. You’ll find yourself actively involved in shaping your residence hall into the perfect place to study, relax, and socialize. Residence Hall Council

In each residence hall, a hall council is selected to address any concerns or questions of residents and to program various hall activities. These leadership positions are great opportunity to work as a team with fellow residents, hall staff and the Department of Residence Life.
