2012 Men's Tennis NAC Tournament Preview

Athletics - posted on 5/2/2012

The Lakeland College men's tennis hopes to finish its season on a high note at the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament on May 5-6 at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wis.

Concordia University Wisconsin hosts the NAC's annual individual tournament and match play begins at 8: 45 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Muskies enter the tournament without a dual win, but head coach Casey Carr is confident his team can make an impact.

"Everyone playing this weekend is playing with the most confidence they've had all season," said Carr. "We want to continue playing good tennis."

The Muskies are led by senior Andy Cheever, who leads the team with a 4-4 record, and freshman Paul Elzinga, who competed at No. 1 singles this season.

"Paul has improved his game tremendously," said Carr. "His serves and volleys are just right and I think it will show this weekend at the tournament. He's seen the competition in our conference and now he can find a way to beat his opponents. He finished every match this year on a positive note."

Seeding for the tournament will be released later this week and is available on the NAC's website:http://northernac.org/sports/mten/2011-12/tournament-indv .

Concordia Wisconsin won the regular season NAC Championship with an 8-0 record, followed by the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

"The great thing about having an individual tournament is that it's open for anybody to take," said Carr. "It's a matter of who's playing well and with confidence. If we can get our serves and volleys down, we have a chance to beat anybody."
