Haeflinger and Elliot receive All-NAC recognition

Athletics - posted on 5/2/2012

Junior Heather Haeflinger and freshman Becca Elliot were named to the 2012 All-Northern Athletics Conference softball team, the league announced Wednesday. Haeflinger received second team All-NAC recognition, while Elliot was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

A native of Shawano, Wis., Haeflinger leads the NAC in triples (10) and ranks fifth in the nation in triples per game (.28). She has a .342 batting average and a .581 slugging percentage. Her 32 runs rank first on the team and sixth in the NAC.

The centerfielder leads the Muskies into this weekend's NAC Tournament on May 3-5 in Milwaukee.

"Heather worked hard during the offseason," said head coach Chad Buchmann. "She's taken over the leadoff spot this year and has had to work on getting on base to score runs for us. Last year she played more of a bunting role, and now her singles have turned into triples and doubles. She makes solid contact, hits with a lot of power and is extremely fast."

Elliot received All-Sportsmanship team honors for providing the team with her unconditional support.

"Becca has been a true team player," said Buchmann. "She's in the learning phase of her softball development, but she never complains and helps the team in any possible way. She's awesome to have around and always works hard."

Benedictine's Brittany Adcox was named Player and Pitcher of the Year, while head coach Kate Keller was named Coach of the Year.
