The awarding of the Cheese Bowl trophy will be on the line for the 21st time on Saturday when the Lakeland College football team hosts Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Taylor Field in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup.
The Muskies will be aiming to get the trophy back after Concordia won last year's matchup by a 28-23 score. The Falcons have won the Cheese Bowl 12 times, while Lakeland has won it eight times, including three straight years from 2008-10.
Lakeland enters the game after consecutive wins, including a 32-7 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College last Saturday. The Muskies are now 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, while Concordia enters with a 3-3 overall records as well as a 2-1 mark in conference. The Falcons come in off of a wild 47-44 overtime loss to Concordia University Chicago last week in which the two Concordia schools combined for nearly 1,200 yards of total offense.
Concordia holds a 21-18 lead in a series that dates back to when Lakeland was known as Mission House College and Concordia was a two-year school. The Falcons lead the series 20-12 since starting football as a four-year school in 1980.
Saturday also is Howards Grove Community Day at the game. For those unable to attend, live video and live stats of the game will be available at www.lakelend.edu/muskieslive, then click on the computer screen with the Muskie logo in the center of the page.
