Hagen-Foley named Lakeland's director of institutional research and assessment

Debra Hagen-Foley has been named Lakeland College's director of institutional research and assessment and will help lead the college's efforts to ensure data-driven decision making.

She brings to Lakeland more than 25 years of experience conducting, leading and coordinating research in a variety of topics, most recently institutional research and outcomes assessment

Information provided by this position helps the college make decisions regarding strategic planning, policy making, resource allocation and enrollment projections. This position also helps coordinate reviews of Lakeland's academic programs and academic assessment and provides support for development of assessment plans that measure what students are learning.

Hagen-Foley was most recently dean of research and institutional effectiveness at Triton College in River Grove, Ill. She was also associate dean of institutional effectiveness and assessment
at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Mich., and director of institutional effectiveness at South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, Ark.

She has created and implemented enrollment management plans, worked in strategic planning to incorporate measurable outcomes and improve links between budgeting and strategic planning and focus efforts on increasing enrollment, retention and completion rates.

At North Central Michigan College she created an assessment process and trained faculty in outcome assessment and online data entry. She also helped that institution develop a student success plan that identified academic, student service and financial barriers to the retention and graduation of academically underprepared students.

She has authored and co-authored numerous presentations on a wide variety of topics.

Hagen-Foley has a doctorate in philosophy (social psychology) and a master of arts in psychology both from the University of Cincinnati, a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and an associate degree in accounting from Chippewa Valley Technical Institute in Eau Claire.
